Assistant Financial Controller – Dual Properties (Niagara Falls Marriott on the Falls and Marriott Fallsview & Spa)

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate dynamic and results-orientated Assistant Financial Controller to be part of the renowned international hotel chain of Marriott Hotels. The successful candidate will report to the Financial Controller and will assist in directing the financial activities of Marriott on the Falls and Marriott Fallsview & Spa by performing the following duties personally and/or through the support of the Finance team. Summary of Responsibilities: Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist in the preparation of annual business plans and budgets for the rooms and food and beverage divisions which encompasses the following business units: *Marriott Café, Milestones Grill + Bar, Concierge Lounge, Mortons Grill, Great Room Bar, Starbucks. Conferences/Banquet Services and Guest Rooms, Spa and Gift Shops.
  • Assist Controller in the safeguarding of company assets by reviewing, monitoring and implementing controls and adopting best practices across all business entities.
  • Lead in the improvement of the management reporting including incorporation of budgets and key metrics.
  • Be a trusted and valued business partner who will work closely with the Controller, General Managers and department managers to provide critical information to make decisions that will drive revenue, lower costs and improve guest satisfaction. Take the initiative to improve in each of these areas and have a continuous-improvement mentality through specialized reports, financial statement enhancements, key metrics, etc.
  • Have the desire to *tell the story* behind the data. Not only take the time to review the report for accuracy but to determine what it says about the business using the key performance measures. Consider their work to be analysis rather than reporting.
  • Constantly seek customer feedback and interaction. First, understand who their customers are: managers, peers, other departments. Ask how they can provide better service.
  • Consistently demonstrate a positive, motivating attitude while working on projects alongside our valued team members.
  • Assist in Supervising the Finance team on a daily basis by communicating clear directions both verbally and in writing.
  • Celebrates successes by publicly recognizing the contributions of the team members.
  • Assists in the recruitment/selection and Associate performance evaluation process, providing feedback as needed for all Finance associates.
  • Serving as a role model to the Finance Team by demonstrating appropriate Marriott service behaviours.

Job Requirements:
  • Professional accounting designation.
  • At least 2 years’ experience, post designation, within an accounting setting ideally with some leadership capacity.

COOK II (Full Time Seasonal)

This position is responsible for assisting in the efficient operations of the kitchen to ensure high quality and consistency of food preparation in accordance to Marriott standards while striving to advance his/her knowledge, skills and abilities and consistently share these with others while promoting professional work habits that will ensure that the department is being guided at all times by Marriott Mission, Vision and Values. Duties includes and not limited to: maintaining a clean workstation; receiving, storing and preparing food items needed in the kitchen; preparation of all items as instructed by the Sous Chef and Executive Chef; adhering to standardized recipes in order to maintain consistency and ensure all standards are met; clean and maintain all equipment, counter tops, fridges/freezers and shelves; ensuring all food products are handled, stored, prepared and served in accordance with hotel and government Food Safety guidelines; report any areas and equipment in need of a work order; responding positively and in a timely manner to all internal and external guest requests; actively participate in Marriott department-specific initiatives in working towards sustainable operations; be health and safety conscious and actively involved in maintaining a safe work environment; foster an environment of cooperation within the department and between other departments within the hotel; perform any and all other tasks which are assigned by management; upholds the highest standard of internal and external customer service at all times; minimize wastage in order to reduce food cost experience; etc.

This position is responsible for assisting in the efficient operations of the kitchen to ensure customers receive quality service and meals. This includes: arriving to work for scheduled start time, ready to commence work with appropriate tools, uniform and in adherence to the grooming policy; setting up grills, fryers and equipment; ala carte cooking; stocking condiments, foods, small wares and required supplies; pre-portioning food; preparing salads; preparing menu items; storing foods; clean as you go to ensure cleanliness of the work area; after service turn off and clean oven tops and work areas; complete all give tasks to set standards (while constantly seeking to improve); be able to work in another area when needed and take part in cross-training when directed; make sure food quality and quantity is correct; make sure all food is prepared by recipes designated by supervisor; follow all kitchen regulations as outlined and directed; adhere to all health and safety standards, guidelines and policies; be able to assist in same day prep and advance prep for another station as instructed by supervisor.

KITCHEN STEWARD (Part Time and Full Time Seasonal)

This position is responsible for completing all tasks assigned as well as maintaining the highest level of Marriott Hotels. All immediate work areas must be clean and free from debris while adhering to all health and safety procedures of the hotel. Duties include and are not limited to: effective and efficient cleaning of all pots, dishes, glass and silver utensils; restocking glasses, dishes and cutlery; keeping dish area of kitchen clean and organized; ensuring that dish washing machine is kept clean and tidy after each shift; operate, clean and general maintenance of all machinery and heavy duty equipment within the department including the dish washing machine, and soaking tanks; removing broken and chipped dishes and advising supervisor; sweeping and mopping dish washing area/floors after each shift; complete all other duties as assigned by your direct supervisor; etc.

Sous Chef (Full Time Seasonal)

We are currently searching for a Sous Chef who has a passion for excellence to lead our culinary team. As a Sous Chef you will be assisting the Milestones Chef in running the operations of the Milestones Restaurant. Responsibilities include and not limited to: Assisting in day to day management and operations of Milestones kitchen. Assisting in the recruiting, training and developing the Kitchen team Maintaining, implementing policies and procedures. Purchasing, receiving and storage of all food items. Managing food costs through waste management, portion control and ordering. Ensuring high level of food quality and consistency through training and direction to kitchen associates. Maintaining exceptional levels of guest service. Working within budgeted guidelines in relation to Food and Payroll. Ensuring daily stand-up/ communication meetings are conducted. Comply with hotel security, fire regulations and all health and safety legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years cooking experience in high volume restaurant with at least 1 year experience in a Supervisory capacity.
  • Outstanding attention to detail – both personal grooming/appearance and properly identifying guests needs, demeanor, and level of required service attention.
  • Diploma in Culinary Management. Food safety certified.

Server (Full Time Seasonal)

Milestones is currently seeking a server to provide the highest level of guest service and accommodation in our restaurant. The server goes above and beyond to take care of guests from the presentation of amenities to giving each guest a genuine, personalized dining experience, while also providing fast, friendly, and efficient service. This key service position is responsible for creating and driving the guest dining room experience by ensuring passionate, sophisticated, and proficient, food and beverage service is provided at all times, and personal attention which often anticipates and responds to guest needs through vigilant attention to follow-up in an effortless and unobtrusive/discreet manner. This position is responsible for performing a variety of activities to ensure courteous and quality service is provided to customers. Guest Service Agent (Full Time Seasonal)

Niagara Falls Marriott on the Falls is currently looking for a Guest Service Agent, in our Front Office Operations. Reporting to the Front Office Manager, this position is responsible for performing a variety of activities to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Front Office. This includes:

  • To greet and welcome guests upon arrival
  • Register guests into the computer system
  • Verify reservation, address, and credit card information
  • Handle room keys for in house guests, ensuring that the Company’s security procedures are adhered to.
  • Accept payment for all guests’ accounts both at the time of registration and at checkout
  • Departure duties including friendly and efficient checkout of guest as well as expressing desire for return business.
  • Maintain a house bank and make a deposit and accurate report of receipts daily
  • Cash cheques and exchange currency for guests

Starbucks Barista (Full Time Seasonal)

This position is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Marriott Starbucks. This job ensures service standards are met and surpassed by creating the Starbucks Experience for your customers with prompt service, quality beverages and products and maintaining a clean and comfortable store environment. This position is responsible for cleaning the assigned rooms which include: making beds, changing sheets, dusting, vacuuming, placing furniture back in its original position, cleaning bathrooms inside the guest rooms including sinks, taps, tubs, showers, walls and toilets; report all concerns related to Engineering, Health and Safety, Security or Suspicious circumstances; responsible for maintaining a clean and organized housekeeping cart; responsible for assisting in the removal of trash, recyclables and dirty linens; following all established and future Standard Operating Procedures such as reporting to work on time, signing in and out master keys and following lost of found procedures & expected to adhere to all Marriott Standards that relate to hygiene, grooming, Health and Safety, Fire, Accommodations, Guestroom Standards and Guest Interactions;  follow all Occupational Health and Safety policies, procedures and regulations; complete various housekeeping duties assigned by your manager or supervisor.

Qualifications

Bellman / Valet Attendant

This key guest service position is responsible for providing a seamless and an exceptional guest arrival and departure experience by handling all guest interactions with the highest level of hospitality and professionalism. Tasks may include, and are not limited to: enthusiastically welcoming/greeting guests in a warm, friendly, prompt and professional manner; opening doors and assisting guests entering and exiting the property; speaking to the guest using clear and professional language when communicating/informing the guests of property amenities, services, hours of operations and local areas of interest and activities; assisting guests in and out of vehicles; providing valet parking; bell services to guests; providing guests with directions, and assisting tours with luggage.

Reporting directly to the Director of Events and Conference Services, this position is responsible for supervising and helping event operations associates in their daily responsibilities and ensuring smooth execution of hotel events. Areas of Responsibility:
  • Oversee and help complete all on-site details for executing group events; develop and follow checklist or itinerary, and troubleshoot event problems.
  • Assist with training, evaluating, coaching and motivating associates.
  • Ensure banquet rooms, restaurants, and coffee breaks are ready for service.
  • Serve as onsite contact person for coordinating details of events with clients, meeting planners, and other departments involved with events.

  • Communicate service needs to kitchen throughout functions.
  • Respond to guest inquiries and concerns and offer solutions.
  • Help manage end of function billing.
  • Assist with payroll.
  • Prepare weekly departmental schedule.
  • Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program.
  • Serve as a role model to the banquet team by demonstrating appropriate Marriott service standard behaviours.

Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience, preferably in a hospitality setting.
  • Previous banquet experience considered an asset.
  • Knowledge food handling safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Knowledge of a union environment considered an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft applications.
  • Strong knowledge of technology is considered an asset (smart phones, Ipads, LCD projectors).
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Summary of Responsibilities: We are currently seeking a Supervisor for our Food and Beverage Outlets who has a passion for excellence to lead our food and beverage service team. As the Supervisor of Food and Beverage you will be assisting the General Manger of the Food and Beverage Outlets in running the operations of the Food and Beverage Outlets. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Assisting the Restaurant and Banquet Manager in hiring, training, scheduling and disciplining.
  • Leading and motivating the restaurant and banquet team to exceed our customer’s expectations.
  • Running the floor, this includes monitoring for seating availability

  • Excellent customer service skills. Demonstrates self confidence, energy and enthusiasm.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and ability to work under pressure.

  • Degree/Diploma in Hospitality Management, Marketing Sales or a related discipline is a strong asset.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, co-operatively within a team setting and as well as the ability to plan and multi-task in a busy environment.
