Tony Orlando at Fallsview – About Tony Orlando
Tony Orlando is best known as the lead singer of Tony Orlando and Dawn, the popular group that enjoyed considerable success during the 1970s in both music and variety television. He's also an American show business professional, having had gotten his start following the successful start of his music career, becoming an executive of CBS Records at a young age.
Orlando, after being discovered by producer Don Kirshner, saw success in the early 1960s at age 16, when his songs, 'Bless You' and 'Halfway to Paradise' rose up the charts.
Following his success, he settled into a producer role at a young age and eventually was promoted to a vice-president role at CBS Records' April-Blackwood Music division.
By the 1970s, Orlando started singing under the moniker, Dawn. Once his songs, as Dawn, saw great success, he began touring and created the group, Tony Orlando and Dawn. Many of their hits included 'Candida,' 'Knock Three Times' and 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree.' The group also hosted their own variety show on CBS, titled 'The Tony Orlando and Dawn Show,' running from 1974-76.
Although the group disbanded by 1978, Tony Orlando has continued to keep his music's legacy alive by performing in between his stints as a show business professional. Even today, the singer is still at it, with his most recent shows going on through to next year.
