For a time in the late 1960s to early 1970s, Three Dog Night was one of the biggest of all rock groups. Their incredible harmonies and catchy songs dominated the charts. And you can watch this popular act live in concert, and walk to the venue near our Niagara Falls Hotel.
Three Dog Night Band Bio
Formed in 1967, the initial line-up of Three Dog Night consisted of Chuck Negron, Cory Wells, and Danny Hutton. They were soon joined by bandmates Michael Allsup on guitar, Floyd Sneed on drums, Joe Schermie on bass, and Jimmy Greenspoon on keyboards. Originally, the band was known as Redwood, but that didn’t seem to work at all, so they dumped it for the catchier “Three Dog Night” and signed with Dunhill Records.
Their first Top Ten song was “One”, written by Harry Nielson which soared to number five on the charts. Over the next six years, the band produced a series of memorable hits, but three managed to reach number one on the charts, “Mama Told Me Not to Come”, “Joy to the World”, and “Black and White” with Cory Wells, Chuck Negron, and Danny Hutton on lead vocals respectively. During their peak years, Three Dog Night sold around 40 million albums.
From 1969 to 1975, Three Dog Night registered three number one hits amid the 21 Billboard Top 40 songs that they had recorded. A remarkable record for any band, but one that is special for Three Dog Night given the relatively short time frame that they achieved their success. In addition to becoming successful on their own, Three Dog Night also promoted the careers of songwriters such as Hoyt Axton, Paul Williams, Laura Nyro, Randy Newman, Leo Sayer, and Harry Nilsson who wrote many of their hit songs.
Three Dog Night 2017 Niagara Falls Concert
With their success ending in 1976, the band broke up for a few years before getting back together in 1981.
Since that time the band has performed frequently over the years, with a celebrated live album, “Three Dog Night with the London Symphony Orchestra” in 2002 which included two new songs. Also, they released the “35th Anniversary Hits Collection” again with the London Symphony Orchestra in 2004.
The band has released a few new songs and enjoys some success in Europe. When they do get together, Three Dog Night manages to perform at a level that recalls their glory days when they dominated the early 1970s with their hit songs.
