Most passes available in Niagara are for family activities – rides, attractions, things like that. Sometimes a holiday needs a different kind of experience, one that includes an expertly paired wine & food pairings.
Taste the Season Niagara Wine Pass
The Taste the Season pass, now an established and esteemed event in the late-year calendar for the region, is valid across November weekends – its benefits active from Friday until Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm at all participating venues. And those venues are the top wineries in the Niagara region – about two dozen destinations offering a food and wine pairing as part of a massive package deal.
So what are some of the pairings available? Here’s a small morsel of the selection on offer:
- Château des Charmes: braised short rib Wellington with green peppercorn aioli. Paired with the estate’s 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon.
- Konzelmann Estate: baked Woolwich goat cheese and sweet basil tart with field tomato marmalade. Paired with 2015 Konzelmann Sauvignon Blanc Reserve.
- Strewen Winery: a ‘seasonal sampler’ trio including double-smoked cheddar, turkey and cranberry sausage, and sweet potato with maple purée in a phyllo cup. Paired with a 2013 Strewn Merlot.
The one ticket provides a sample of these treats and also all the samples available at the other wineries, the full list of which includes:
- Peller Estates
- Reif Estate.
The pass itself doesn’t cover transport to these venues.
Groups forging their own path might also take note of the cheaper ‘Designated Driver’ pass for food and non-alcoholic alternatives. But as a way of taking the whole hassle away, partnerships between hotels and transport coaches are also worth investigating, as Magnificent Tours of Niagara have a specific circuit set up to hit six participating wineries in a single tour.
The Taste the Season Pass is the ideal introductory course to the best wineries in the region; their styles and philosophies, their expertise, and their hospitality. Anyone visiting Niagara in November who’s keen to sample the best gourmet offerings from the region would be remiss in not taking up the opportunity.
Take a guided 5+ hour tour, visiting all of the amazing wineries listed above with Niagara’s Largest Tour Company, Magnificent Tours of Niagara.
