Paul Shaffer & The World's Most Dangerous Band

Paul Shaffer & The World's Most Dangerous Band

‘The World’s Most Dangerous Band’ is one of many monikers taken over the decades by a selection of respected musicians better known as the crux of the ‘CBS Orchestra’. The orchestra was formed as the house band for the NBC talk show Late Night with David Letterman from 1982, and then moved with Letterman to CBS for The Late Show with David Letterman in 1993.

It was on The Late Show the group became popularized as ‘Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra’. Shaffer, as the face of the band and Letterman’s foil and sidekick for over twenty years across two late night talk shows, is a name synonymous with the success of the show.

The CBS Orchestra disbanded in its modern form after Letterman’s final show in May 2015. Since then the core members of the group have not been idle, and 2017 has quickly become a major comeback year. They will be making appearances around the world, including heading to beautiful Niagara Falls for a Fallsview Casino concert on April 20th, 2017.

Due to its long life and multi-instrumental capabilities, the band made room for many top-tier musicians during its ‘house band’ years, including:

  • Vocalist/guitarist Felicia Collins
  • Bassist Will Lee
  • Jazz brass specialist Tom Malone
  • Prolific drummer Anton Fig
  • Guitarist Sid McGuinness.

All these artists have works with the greats of modern music across multiple genres – Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Miles Davis, etc. – and as a unit the orchestra itself has made a strong presence outside of talk show performances, including playing at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremonies and frontline status in charity concerts such as 2001’s Concert for New York City.

Paul Shaffer and the World’s Most Dangerous Band, along with nearly all its original core members, will be touring across North America as a celebration of both the readopting of the group’s original name and the upcoming release of a new, eponymously titled collaboration album. Paul Shaffer and the World’s Most Dangerous Band is due for release in March 2017, and is filled with guest vocalists rounding out the orchestral music– including Jenny Lewis, Dion, Shaggy and Bill Murray.

In their 2017 tour, The Most Dangerous Band will be visiting the Fallsview Casino Resort for one night only, on April 20.
