Come and celebrate the region’s wine, food and music at the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival which will be held from in September. You can participate in more than 100 events that will take place throughout the duration of the festival. These include wine tasting sessions at the picturesque vineyards and wineries in the region, events showcasing Niagara’s bounty, live entertainment with local bands and singers, grand parades and lots more. Here’s what you can do to soak in the spirit of the festival.
The festival celebrates Niagara’s world famous award winning wines, so get hold of the Niagara Wine Festival Discovery Pass to have a really good time. Each pass entitles you to eight wine and food tastings at the participating wineries in the Niagara region. For three weekends during the festival, you can visit stunning vineyards and taste some superb VQA wines that are paired with culinary delights. The pass is your gateway to food, wine and fun. Some of the participating wineries include Trius, Konzelmann Estate Winery, Peller Estates and others.
The heart of the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival is at the historic Montebello Park where two weekends of wine, food, music and fun await you. You can purchase tokens (used as currency) to enjoy Niagara’s local food and wine at the park. The food sold by the vendors is available for 1 to 3 tokens per portion. The amazing VQA wines can be tasted by the sample or glass in exchange for tokens although you have to be 19 and above with valid ID proof to purchase alcoholic beverages. Also, check out the wonderful line-up of music acts at the park over the weekends. These include The Caverners–an all-Canadian tribute band to the Beatles, country and rock band Cold Creek County, Evermile, Whitney Pea, Brad James and others.
Get ready to witness one of North America’s topmost street parades – the Meridian Grande Parade – in the downtown core of St Catharines. A wonderful show of pomp and pageantry, the parade will be held on Saturday as part of the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival. Organized by the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival, the theme of the parade is ‘Homegrown Niagara’ and more than 100,000 people are expected to attend this impressive celebration. The Grande Parade will showcase a splendid procession of marching bands, drum corps, community groups, floats, majorettes, and spectacular performances. You can also give something back to the community by donating to the Community Care Annual Harvest Drive during the parade.
