Throughout the second half of June, the latest from internationally acclaimed wineries across southern Ontario gets a chance to shine in the New Vintage Wine Festival. This early summer festival is positioned to make the most of the wines that have only just matured and been made available to the public.
As with all the best wine festivals, this isn’t just a chance to indulge in wine and also in fresh local produce. Take a tour of any of the wineries and estates taking part in the New Vintage Experience and wine tastings will be paired with appropriate appetisers and treats selected to pair the selected wine.
Featuring Niagara's Best Wineries
Just about every significant winery has something to offer for the late June period, and that’s a lot of wineries to worry about, and a lot of planning. The best bet to get started is a New Vintage Festival Discovery Pass, which is a bundle of eight tickets to use as you see fit. Visit the prestigious heavyweights like Jackson-Triggs, Inniskillin, Peller Estates Winery or Magnotta – or try your luck on other amazing estates like Konzelmann Estate or Reif Estate.
Take a Tour Bus
As for getting around, there are numerous transportation options, whether you want to hunt down scheduled tour routes or make up your own route with the open-ended Discovery Pass. Check out one of the local tour groups—Magnificent Tours of Niagara, for a luxury bus tour of 7 wineries. This will allow you to fully enjoy the festival without having to concern yourself with driving.
New Vintage Festival TD Tailgate Party
The main event of the festival is the TD Tailgate Party. Located at the Buis Family Vineyard in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Tailgate Party a celebration of summer and a melting pot of the best in new wines, where up to forty wineries from around Niagara uncork their latest vintages and offer tastings to wine connoisseurs. Combined with good food and live entertainment it’s the classic celebration of the long, warm days of summer.
The festival is not particularly long, only spanning across two weekends, so it’s important to make the most of that time. Pick out some vineyards to sample and have some fun across Niagara while the vintages are new and perfectly matured. With the top-notch food and wine, it’s a great way to celebrate summer.
