The Niagara Falls Women’s Half Marathon has grown from a small race into a large, internationally known yearly event, taking place in June of every year. Although it doesn’t restrict men from participating, it’s an event focused on empowering its female participants.
As a public event, the half marathon course is ideal: taking place along Niagara Falls, and into more areas that most tourists don’t see before heading back down to the Falls for a photogenic finish.
Amenities and race inclusions: a swag bag and five water stations service the route at even intervals.
And above all else, the route takes advantage of a great view of the falls. The marathon starts on Upper Rapids Boulevard, just north-east of Marineland, and the majority of the track is along Niagara Parkway. This means the participants hug the vast river the entire way, and pass Niagara Falls twice.
The half marathon features a charity component, and every year it has shone a spotlight on at least one charity.
Registration is easy to do online. Each registered participant gets a ‘swag bag’ to pick-up, which includes the marathon bib and t-shirt along with cosmetic samples and a bottle of wine from a local vineyard.
At 21.1 kilometres it’s challenging for runners and a good workout for walkers. Women of all ages are encouraged to enter and be part of a fun and fit day out.
