Grammy award winning group KC and the Sunshine Band arrive at the Fallsview Casino to perform their beloved hits for fans young and old. The band's expected to perform hits including 'Get Down Tonight,' 'That's The Way (I Like It),' 'Boogie Shoes,' 'Rock Your Baby,' 'Where Is The Love' and 'Give It Up.'
History of KC and the Sunshine Band
American funk-disco group, KC and the Sunshine Band, came together in 1973, kickstarting a career that exemplified the best of the R&B, disco and funk musical styles. The band's name KC and the Sunshine Band was derived from lead vocalist Harry Wayne Casey's last name (as in, KC); the 'Sunshine Band' moniker was taken from KC's home state, Florida, where the band was formed.
The group is best known for its considerable success first seen in the mid-1970s, where their first major hit in the United States burned up the charts—1975's 'Get Down Tonight.' The single topped the R&B chart throughout April and hit the Billboard Hot 100 by August. Their self-titled second album eventually went triple platinum following their first and successive hits.
'That's the Way (I Like It)' went number one in November 1975, paving the way for the group to have a successful outing at the 1976 Grammys. KC and the Sunshine Band's 1976 album, Part 3, produced two more number ones: '(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty' and 'I'm Your Boogie Man.' Their hit 'Keep It Comin' Love' hit number two.
Success continued to follow KC and the Sunshine Band until the release of their fifth album, where their popularity continued to wind down, as newer music genres started entering the forefront into the 1980s. Their last hit was 1979's 'Please Don't Go,' which subsequently became the first chart topping hit of the 1980s.
After a brief stint in the music scene following the release of their 2001 album, I'll Be There For You, the group remained on a hiatus, though allowed their music to be licensed for various television shows and movies. Today, KC and the Sunshine Band has started to tour again as the older and new generation look forward to get reintroduced to their music.
