Jewel in Concert

Jewel in Concert

Jewel Kilcher, known more commonly just as Jewel, didn’t exactly come out of nowhere in the mid-1990s – she’d been playing in clubs along the US West Coast and developing her style for years before her debut album, Pieces of You, was released in 1995. But at the time her rise in popularity felt meteoric.

Jewel Musical History

Born and raised in a small town in Alaska, Jewel’s first album was suitably a blend of country, folk and contemporary pop – an eclectic take on the type of hybridisation that would make latecomers like Taylor Swift popular decades later. But Jewel arguably has the more versatile voice, experienced in both operatic techniques and yodel. Pieces of You had instant hits like ‘Who Will Save Your Soul’ and ‘Foolish Games’, contributing to one of the most successful debut albums in US history.

Transitioning Artist

Since those early days Jewel has continued to experiment with multiple genres and styles while remaining commercially popular. The early 2000s saw her playing with contemporary pop and dance rhythms to critical and commercial success, while by 2008 she was more firmly entrenched in traditional US country music.

Always a productive performer and songwriter, in the 2010s Jewel has been as industrious as ever, collaborating with artists and bands such as:

  • Blues Traveller
  • Dolly Parton
  • Kelly Clarkson.

Her latest album, the self-produced 2015 collection Picking up the Pieces, is marketed as a ‘bookend’ to Pieces of You, both raw and autobiographical.

Jewel Niagara Falls Concert

On January 12, 2017, Jewel will be playing a one-night-only performance at Fallsview Casino Resort, bringing both her 1990s biggest hits as well as newer works from her 1000+ career-wide library of songs.

As an embodiment of 90s nostalgia for her ground-breaking early work, an accomplished and uniquely talented singer still at the top of her game today, and a highly successful songwriter, Jewel has always been one to draw crowds, and few pop artists performing today have her raw vocal range and wide array of training. With only one show in Niagara Falls currently planned, this is a rare treat to see Jewel live and in-person.
