Gin Blossoms History
An American rock band founded in Tempe, Arizona in 1987, the Gin Blossoms became a big part of the rock scene in the 1990s. Although the band broke up in 1997, the reformed in 2002 and today are still touring around the world and releasing new material. When the band formed in 1987, the played several dates in the Tempe, Arizona area and started a small following. In 1989, the released an independent album, Dusted.
By the early 1990s, the band underwent some changes and was picked up by A&M Records. Their first effort was an EP titled Up and Crumbling which only enjoyed some modest success. However, a full studio album was released in 1992, New Miserable Experience.
The first single, “Hey Jealousy” managed to reach #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This effort was duplicate by the next single, “Found Out About You”.
Their second album, Congratulations, I’m Sorry was released in 1996 and spawned the hit single, “Follow You Down” which peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Despite enjoying a considerable amount of radio airplay, the Gin Blossoms broke up in the summer of 1997.
Gin Blossoms Today
After the members of the band went their separate ways in 1997 to explore different projects, they reunited in 2002 and began working on new material as well as touring the country. Major Lodge Victory became the fourth album released by the band which enjoyed some moderate success in managing to reach the Billboard 200 charts.
By 2009, the Gin Blossoms had released a live album that featured all their well-known songs along with a few new tunes and some covers. By 2010, they had released their fifth album, No Chocolate Cake and began another tour of the US which included stops at several military bases, including those in Iraq. The Gin Blossoms still retain the unique sound that has made them an important part of the rock scene. The continued success of the Gin Blossoms is a welcome sign for audiences that love their music. They will be performing at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls on April 1st, 2017.
