Daryl Hall and John Oates, best known as Hall & Oates, are an American music duo originating out of Philadelphia. The two started their alliance in 1970 and have performed together ever since. Hall generally sings lead vocals and plays a variety of instruments, while Oates plays lead electric guitar, other instruments and provides backing vocals and occasional lead vocals. Both collaborate and write most of the songs they perform.
The group rose to fame during the late 1970s and mid-1980s, as they bought their unique rock and soul to the pop music charts, cementing them as new wave legends. Today, Hall & Oates continue to tour and perform their latest and greatest hits.

Overall, they've achieved 34 hits on the US Billboard Hot 100, in addition to seven RIAA certified platinum albums and sic RIAA certified gold albums. Billboard Magazine also named them the most Successful Duo of the Rock era.
By 2003, the duo was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In April 2014, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
