Floral Showhouse Schedule

The Floral Showhouse features eight floral shows per year, meaning the flowers are changed out to reflect the seasons. All floral shows are surrounded by collections of tropical plant species, succulents and orchids throughout the year. Here’s a look at what’s coming up in May 2019 and beyond:

Annual Hydrangea Display

May 4-June 3

The hydrangea shrub blooms in spring and summer, creating a stunning display of clusters of colourful flowers. See hydrangeas in pinks, blues, purples and white in this display that’s a must-see when visiting Niagara Falls in spring.

Flowers in BloomAnnual Summer Show

June 8-September 9

The Annual Summer Show in 2019 celebrates two themes – the colour ultraviolet, which was the 2018 colour of the year, and Chinese culture. See ultraviolet in plants like strobilanthes, gomphrena and colocasia, proving plants can be just as colourful as the flowers surrounding them. A wishing bridge, moon gate and red lanterns and umbrellas give visitors a glimpse into Chinese traditions.

In the summer months, it’s also worth checking out the gardens surrounding the Floral Showhouse. These include ponds, an Artists’ Garden and a fragrance garden, all of which are great for wandering through and soaking in. Plants in the fragrance garden are identified in Braille for the visually impaired.

Reiger Begonia Show

September 14-October 21

Usher in fall with the Reiger Begonia show, a display of these beautiful flowers surrounded by kale, swiss chard, sunflowers and solidago. Fall colours like orange, maroon and red will be seen in displays featuring crotons, amaranthus, millet and ornamental peppers, too.

Annual Chrysanthemum Show

October 26-November 18

See a burst of colour at the Annual Chrysanthemum Show, where pinks, yellows, bronzes and greens take centre stage. You can see brush varieties of chrysanthemums, single-stem exhibitions and collections in pyramids, pillars and baskets.

Annual Poinsettia Show

November 23-January 7

Welcome the holiday spirit with the festive Annual Poinsettia Show, complete with a glittering winter light exhibition surrounding these beautiful traditional winter decorations. See poinsettias, azaleas, Christmas cactus, paperwhite narcissus, cyclamen and more.

More to See at the Floral Showhouse

Besides the magnificent flower and plant displays inside the Floral Showhouse, one of the coolest displays to check out here is the miniature Life on Display Exhibit, outside the venue. This outdoor art installation features repurposed vintage pieces from the Durham Region’s Cullen Miniature Village collection.

Viewers can see lifelike miniature representations of Ontario landmarks, like a replication of Parkwood Estate and Muskoka Cottages. A vintage train travels throughout the exhibit. This is a permanent display you can check out all year long.
