It’s Cold … Let’s Drink: All the Info on Niagara Falls Ice Wine Festival

The Niagara Falls Ice Wine Festival always pleases wine aficionados. This fun event is all about Niagara’s famous adult beverage made from frozen grapes. Here’s everything you need to know about the most anticipated event of the winter season:

Where it’s Hosted

This year, the Niagara Falls Ice Wine Festival is held at The Scotiabank Convention Centre. This 300,000 square foot convention space is located just steps away from the falls in the Fallsview Entertainment District.

Marriott on the Falls is just a short drive from the Entertainment District. The two-day festival starts on January 26th through the 27th that runs all day long.

What to Expect

The entire convention center is dedicated to anything and everything wine.

Escape the harsh outdoors and cozy-up inside with your friends through the premium wines and ice wines that come from over 15 of Niagara’s most renowned wineries. From the moment you walk through the doors, you’ll be greeted with wonderful aromas, flavors, and an endless amount of sips.

With each ticket, you will get 3 hours of red wine, white wine and ice wine sampling from the best wineries in Niagara Falls. Some of the Niagara wineries that will be at the event this year will be:

  • Flat Rock Cellars
  • Inniskillin
  • Jackson-Triggs Niagara Estate Winery
  • Peller Estates Winery
  • Pillitteri Estates Winery
  • Niagara College Teaching Winery
  • Vieni Estates
  • Vineland Estates Winery
  • Magnotta Winery
  • Trius Winery
  • Westcott Vineyards
  • Henry of Pelham
  • Niagara Brewing Company

Get you palates ready; these local wineries will have their signature bottles out for tasting.

Along with renowned wines, many food vendors were specifically curated to create a tasting experience unlike any other.

Upon entrance, there will be a wide variety of food pairing options to choose from. Unlike any other festival in the world, the Niagara Falls Ice Wine Festival puts you in control of how you want to experience your tastings. Food tokens are available for purchase and can be used to create your own tasting experience. These tokens can be redeemed throughout the event and vary from station to station.

Head over to your favorite winery to sample a signature ice wine and use your tokens to receive a savory snack to pair it with. Sip on a light and fresh Sauvignon Blanc and grab a bite of tasty cheese to accompany it. Whatever your preference, there’s something that you’ll love at this festival.

There will also be tons of entertainment throughout the event. Local bands and artists will be performing around the convention center. Grab a glass of ice wine, a little snack and head over to the main stage to enjoy intimate performances by Niagara Falls’ favorites.

What to Bring

If you’re ready for a day of drinking some of the best ice wines and eating some of the delicious chef-made foods, you won’t need to bring much else than yourself and your appetite. But, if you want to be extra prepared for the day ahead, here are a few things you might want to consider bringing with you. For the day, carry a reusable tote bag or a backpack with you. This will help you keep your belongings handy and your hands-free. You might pick up a few goodies along the way, and the bag will let you store them easily while you continue to make your way through the tastings.

In your backpack, make sure you have a water bottle and an ID. The water will help you stay hydrated throughout rounds and rounds of tastings and samples of food so you can keep going throughout the day.

Throughout the event, there will be musicians and entertainment. If you are sensitive to loud noise, we might suggest bringing some earplugs so you can enjoy the event comfortably.

What to Wear

If you’re visiting from out of town, just remember, you’re heading to an event in Canada—one of the coldest places of the north. Make sure to pack a coat and dress in layers so that you remain comfortable from the car ride over to about four tastings in. Have some mittens or gloves in your bag and maybe even a beanie. This is one of the coldest times of the year in Canada, and it’s always better to have more layers than not enough.

Don’t worry about your coat. When you get into the event, there will be a coat check where you can keep your coat safely without having to lug it around all day.
