The 35th edition of the festival will take place from November 18, 2017 to January 31, 2018.
A grand opening ceremony at Queen Victoria Park on November 18 will get the festival off to an exciting start. Amazing performances on the stage and brilliant displays of fireworks over the illuminated falls will mark the ceremony. Admission is free. Throughout the festival, you can see millions of colourful lights and displays lining an 8 km route along the Niagara Parkway and Dufferin Islands as well as the Fallsview area and other tourist districts.
Illuminated Displays and Laser Show
The Queen Victoria Park looks stunning with glimmering lights and a sparkling maze of trees in different hues. Just as spectacular are the illuminated Zimmerman Fountain, Christmas trees with presents, Duck Pond, and Parks Police Building with 3D angel displays. At Clifton Hill, you can enjoy an incredible free laser show with four 15-minute shows every hour starting 5.30 p.m. from December 22 to January 7. There’s more fun in store at the interactive laser booth where you can pen your very own message or etch a picture in laser lights!
Fallsview District Illuminations, Sound and Light Show
You can also view beautiful displays along the Fallsview area. Crosswalks leading to the Fallsview Casino have superb illuminations. There are dazzling lamp post displays along Fallsview Boulevard and Stanley Avenue, and impressive lamp post snowflake displays on Murray Hill. Another wonderful display is the 3d projection mapping during the Fallsview Sound and Light Show. Colours, textures and visuals will come alive on the façade of the Oakes Hotel along with pulsating music. Canada 150 is one of the themes during this free show.
The serene and scenic Dufferin Islands also has some fabulous displays. Right outside the islands, is the largest illuminated Canadian-American flag in the world that recognizes the friendly relations between the countries. This three storey high lighting display alternately shows both the flags. Inside the islands, see splendid 3D Canadian wildlife displays and trees in all their gleaming glory.
