Memorial Day Niagara Falls 2017

Memorial Day Niagara Falls 2017

The last Monday in May is recognised in the United States as Memorial Day, honouring the American soldiers who gave their lives in war. It also serves as an unofficial start to the summer season, with a long weekend and a long itinerary of things to do. Simultaneously respectful and festive, it’s a holiday that is perfect as a lead-in to the warmer months.

Technically, the holiday is only recognised on the United States side of the border, yet Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada unofficially celebrates the weekend with fireworks displays and a great events calendar.

  • Check out Clifton Hill (if you haven’t already): long weekends usually are perfect for family outings, and Clifton Hill is the epicentre of family activities. Mini-golf, the Ripley’s building, various exhibitions and showcases, Niagara Brewing Company and fantastic dining. Take a wander up and down the main thoroughfares and see what’s on offer.
  • Spoil yourself with a good meal: especially if you’re crossing the border, you might as well splurge on the dining options on the Canadian side of the river – Milestones on the Falls is a great family restaurant on Fallsview Boulevard.
