The last Monday in May is recognised in the United States as Memorial Day, honouring the American soldiers who gave their lives in war. It also serves as an unofficial start to the summer season, with a long weekend and a long itinerary of things to do. Simultaneously respectful and festive, it’s a holiday that is perfect as a lead-in to the warmer months.
Technically, the holiday is only recognised on the United States side of the border, yet Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada unofficially celebrates the weekend with fireworks displays and a great events calendar.
