The official Canada spring has begun, starting on March 20th. This is when the snow begins to melt away and the flowers start to bloom – a massive transformation in Niagara Falls, which has more than its fair share of floral centrepieces, gardens and fecund parkland.
Here is a short list of Things to do during Spring in Niagara Falls.
Niagara Falls Fallsview
It goes without saying vibrant colours begin to blossom during the spring. So whatever you’re doing that isn’t outdoors, a ‘room with a view’ does wonders for the spirit. Make sure to get a spot looking over the falls when you’re eating somewhere like the Milestones on the Falls. Take advantage of scenic offerings around town like a visit to the viewing area at the Skylon Tower or the Skywheel Ferris wheel located on Clifton Hill.
Routes on the Niagara Parkway
There are many places to take a season stroll, with some of the best routes taking place along the Niagara Parkway. Queen Victoria Park is full of greenery, the spring theme often being tulips but the garden beds are always offering new surprises. The Incline Railway makes it easy to get down the slope and to the riverside quicker, if you want to walk towards the falls and/or the Table Rock Welcome Centre from the hotel. The weather’s warm enough to make the stroll a pleasure.
This is one of the best kept secrets of Niagara’s many attractions, this small collection of islands on the riverbank is only a short walk away upstream from the fall themselves, along the Niagara Parkway. The islands constitute a small protected parkland, with picnic areas and bird-feeding stations. It’s a small pocket of nature great for lounging and checking out the local flora. Swimming is restricted, but some fishing is permitted. Even better the Floral Showhouse is on the way between the falls and the Dufferin Islands, so a stop-over completes the setting.
