You can discover the stunning landscape of Niagara by hiking through its various trails. It is not only a good way to remain active but also one of the best ways to see the wonderful natural sights that the city has to offer. The Niagara Glen located along the Canadian side of the Niagara Gorge is your gateway to hiking at the gorge. The Niagara Gorge trails are spectacular, offering views of flora and fauna and thousands of years of geological history. You can hike down to the river and also take a look at the Niagara Whirlpool besides other lovely sights.
Another good hiking opportunity is the Bruce Trail at Queenston Heights Park. Often called Canada’s oldest and longest footpath, the trail goes along the Niagara Escarpment starting from Queenston traversing hundreds of kilometres to Tobermory at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula. You can hike along the Queenston part of the trail taking in the scenic landscape while giving your body and senses a workout.
Another great way to stay fit while exploring Niagara is through biking. And one of the best biking routes is the fabulous Niagara Parkway. It’s a feast for the eyes as you can see the beautiful Niagara River as you cycle along the roadway. Plenty of stunning sights and attractions are dotted along the Parkway such as Brock’s Monument, the Niagara Floral Clock, Butterfly Conservatory, Whirlpool Rapids and of course, the spectacular Niagara Falls. There are lovely lawns, gardens, pretty houses, charming wineries and vineyards, picnic tables, shops and restaurants, some of which also have bicycle racks and restrooms. The best thing is that the Parkway looks spectacular in every season, so the ride is absolutely worth it.
If you are staying at the Marriott Fallsview, there are plenty of fantastic running routes where you can go for a run while enjoying the sights. The Niagara Falls Route takes you right near the gorgeous Horseshoe Falls. That should give you added energy to finish the rest of your run. It includes a downhill and uphill climb on Murray Street followed by the route past the Horseshoe Falls. You can return to the hotel with a flat run along the Niagara Parkway back to Murray Street. The Niagara Parkway Route takes you past Murray Street, then on to the Niagara Falls Parkway leading up to Clifton Hill where you can also visit the Secret Garden. On this route, you can view the stunning American Falls as well. Return along the Niagara Parkway to Murray Street and back to your hotel.
