Canada’s largest display of Christmas lights is being turned on this weekend when the 2011-2012 CAA Winter Festival of Lights opens.
Based in Queen Victoria Park just steps from the Marriott Fallsview Hotel & Spa, the Festival of Lights is a true winter tradition that entertains and delights 1.3-million people annually. Between November 5 and January 31, More than 3 million dazzling lights in 120 individual displays, including the world-famous Enchantment of Disney®, will be illuminated in North America’s premier lighting festival.
Now in its 29th year, the 2011 festival will open Saturday at 5:45 p.m. with a fantastic show on an outdoor stage in Queen Victoria Park, featuring Niagara’s own international magician Greg Frewin, the cast of the Oh Canada Eh? Dinner Theatre, the Wendy Leard School of Dance and the famed Festival Choir. The ceremony will also feature guest appearances by Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck and Old Saint Nick himself, Santa Claus, who will be making a special trip from the North Pole.
When the show is over, the flipping of a giant switch will turn on the lights and launch the first fireworks display of the 2011-2012 winter season in Niagara Falls.
