On the New York side of Niagara Falls, the Rapids Theatre is one of the town’s premier event venues – and has been for nearly a century, since its first incarnation as the Bellevue Theatre in 1921.
The theatre moved on from vaudeville shows though, and now is an all-purpose entertainment centre capable of seating 800 for performances and 1700 that when the seats are cleared for concerts. Music is the main drawcard, and many of the word’s hottest international acts have come to the Rapids to perform – from bands including Thirty Seconds to Mars, Fall Out Boy and Alice in Chains, to mega stars such as Snoop Dogg. Bands, performers, comics – if it can be held on a stage, chances are the Rapids stage has featured it at some point.
The most consistent flavour at the venue has been rock in recent years, and plenty else has been on the cards. The main room is customisable to allow for a variety of special events.
If it so happens that the prospect of seeing these international acts isn’t your thing, the theatre has one more trick up its sleeve – the building has long been reputed as one of the most haunted structures in the state of New York. The TV show Ghost Hunters did a feature on it and public ghost hunts are still conducted. To this date the ghosts have been kind enough to not interfere with any of the stage performances.
With its classical aesthetic and the pulling power to feature on the touring schedules of some of the hottest acts to pass through Niagara Falls, the Rapids Theatre is a prestigious building and a prime venue for anyone loving a big night out and a good show. Grab a drink at the bar and enjoy the night.
