Hinterbrook is a family-owned winery situated close to the Lake Ontario shoreline on the Niagara Peninsula. The winery takes pride in being eco-focused and producing wine with a strong commitment to keeping a non-existent carbon footprint and efficient use of resources – meaning a state of the art facility that also happens to make great wine.
Artisanal Wine Making
Hinterbrook wine production keeps to the principles of ‘artisanal winemaking’, which is a hands-on approach to raise and hand-pick grapes with the utmost care. The result is a range of award-winning wines recognised at ceremonies such as the All Canadian Wine Championships, headed by strong single-blend whites and reds including the signature cabernet franc vintage. The estate also produces icewine as part of its core range.
The estate keeps a manicured outdoor zone for a relaxed atmosphere where anyone can come by and sample the current wines on offer. Hinterbrook regularly features special tapas from local suppliers and musical guests to accompany wine festival tours and regular early evening events.
Barrel Head Wine Club
Full tours are offered by appointment, and regular enthusiasts can join the ‘Barrel Head’ wine club. The best way to keep in touch is by regular visits – it’s relatively close to Niagara-on-the-lake and has something going on just about every week.
