The tour is accessible from Goat Island in Niagara Falls, New York.

Niagara Falls USA Attraction

The experience of visiting Niagara Falls cannot be complete without going for the Cave of the Winds tour. The adventure starts when you board the elevator that travels 175 feet down to the base of the Niagara Gorge. From here, a guided tour takes you through wooden walkways to the Hurricane Deck where you can be in close proximity to the falls. Watch gallons of water gushing just 20 feet away and get drenched in the spray that falls all over. Ponchos are provided as protection against the water spray.

Amazing Niagara Falls Experience

To watch the falls tumbling down from above, right in front of you is an awe-inspiring feeling. The force of the falls creates a storm-like setting with the wind blowing in your face, the crashing sounds of the water falling and the spray soaking you. In short, it is a mind blowing experience. Bring along a waterproof camera to capture the moments and relive it forever. The tour is accessible to people with disabilities who can view the falls from a deck built 150 feet away from the base of the falls. Families with very young children too can use this deck to see the falls.

Cave of the Winds History

The history behind this tour is also equally interesting. While there is no actual cave here today, it existed many years ago and was discovered in 1834. It was located behind the falls and was 130 feet high and 100 feet wide. Guided tours started from 1841 and had to be discontinued after a rock fall in 1920 as it could prove to be dangerous. After a major rock fall in 1954, the cave was completely destroyed. The present tour started in 1924 and takes people to the front of the falls. During fall time, the walkways and decks are removed as a preventive measure against weather-related damage and are reinstalled in spring.

The Cave of the Winds tour is open all days from May to October. This tour gives you the opportunity of a lifetime to experience the Niagara Falls in all its glory. Go for it!
